I've currently been travelling for the past 6 years and about to start year 7 soon. Mainly working at a few Renaissance festivals for a few vendors. Lots of changes and adjustments during my adventures but developing a pretty decent outine for the year's work. Slowly improving my quality of life quite a bit, and I've even got a couple of plans for the future. Overall, I'm finally feeling like a proper adult.
When I first started my journey as a semi-nomadic retail worker, my home was a decent sized tent. Of course, because I most definitely love my creature comforts and live in my tent, not just "camp out" I quickly outgrew the space. Within a couple of years upgraded to a decent sized yurt, which I will very inadequately describe as a circular tent with walls and rafters. Spacious and lovely but takes time to set up and down. Most recently, I've aquired a small vintage (1949) 13ft travel trailer for only $400. It was in very decent shape and didn't even need much fixing up (but I did make a ffew changes anyway). I didn't expect to like travelling with a trailer quite as much as I have. It is quite nice having home pretty much setup upon arrival without having to fuss about setting up things over the course of a day, especially if the weather is rainy or blazing hot. Eventually, I plan on acquring a slightly larger trailer. This one is large enough, but only * just * (even using the yurt as a garage of sorts). Hopefully, I can catch as good a deal as I did with this one.
In my search for a comfortable balance of stability and variety, I've worked selling bamboo flutes and ocarinas, juggling toys, hair jewelry and rings, stained glass, gemstone jewelry, and mixed media art prints. My current rotation has me alternating between the gemstone jewelry at Scarborough Renaissance (south of Dallas), Texas Renaissance Festival (outside of Houston), and Armadillo Christmas Bazaar (downtown Austin), and sandwiched between those shows I am working with the mixed media artist at Arizona Renaissance Festival (east of Tempe) and at Colorado Renaissance Festival (between Colorado Springs and Denver).
Additionally I am now partnered (but not married, just steady ) with a very lovely and interesting young woman I met early in my travels. Crafty and intelligent, she has captured my attention and we are seeing where life takes us. The future is full of options. While I brainstorm ways to possibly stay in the area more without giving up the exciting life of travel that I have, she conjectures leaving her frustrating job one day when debts are paid and health is steady to join me in this wandering life of leisure. We shall see what happens.
It is an interesting life we live - some, more so than others. I am enjoying mine for sure.
